The Artisanal Spirits Company which owns The Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS) listed on AIM today (Friday 4th June 2021) for around £78m.
The society offers curated single malt whiskies for more than 28,000 global subscribers as well as operating an online shop and four venues across the UK.
Ridley said the float was “a great opportunity” for the business and that it was “almost recognition of what we’ve done in the last six years with the business to create that inflection point for the IPO.
“It should open up a whole new chapter for the society, its members and the variety of stock we can offer,” he said.
Artisanal bought the business in 2015 while the SMWS was founded in 1983 in Edinburgh.
Ridley describes the Society as a “community of whisky lovers that are constantly offered a variety of single cask whiskies that create whisky epiphanies for all the members because everything is so different.”
Whisky has enjoyed a renaissance over the last twenty years, with younger drinkers taking to one of the world’s most ancient spirits.
